Abstract

Community service is one of the obligations of university lecturers—alongside teaching and research—under the "Tri Dharma" (Three Pillars) of Higher Education. The community service activity titled "Raising Awareness and Introducing North Maluku Ancient Manuscripts to High School Students in Ternate City" represents a literary preservation effort aimed at safeguarding community traditions and culture for the younger generation. Ancient manuscripts, which harbor diverse knowledge across various fields—including literature—constitute a significant element of cultural heritage within the community. However, as these manuscripts are written in the Jawi (Arabic-Malay) script—a writing system rarely used today—fewer people possess the ability to read them. This activity aims to foster an interest in learning about ancient manuscripts and regional literature, thereby encouraging an appreciation for ancestral traditions and culture.
