Abstract

Menopause is a normal physiological stage that marks the end of a woman's reproductive life as a result of the gradual decline in ovarian function, leading to the permanent cessation of menstruation. During this transition, women may experience a variety of physical and psychological symptoms, including sleep disturbances, anxiety, and mood fluctuations, which can affect their overall well-being. Insufficient knowledge about menopause may contribute to fear, misconceptions, and inadequate preparedness for these changes. Therefore, improving women's understanding of menopause is essential to enhance their physical and psychological readiness for the menopausal transition. This study aimed to examine the association between knowledge about menopause and women's readiness to face menopause among women living in Kartoharjo Village, Kartoharjo District, Magetan Regency, Indonesia.  This research employed a quantitative analytical method using a cross-sectional design. The study included 58 women aged 45–49 years who were recruited through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted between November 2025 and March 2026 using structured questionnaires assessing menopause-related knowledge and readiness for menopause. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data, and the association between the study variables was analyzed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The findings indicated that 43.1% of the respondents had a moderate level of knowledge, representing the largest proportion of participants. Good knowledge was identified in 41.4% of respondents, whereas 15.5% demonstrated poor knowledge. Overall, 70.7% of the participants were classified as being prepared for menopause, while 29.3% were categorized as unprepared. Nearly all women with good knowledge showed adequate preparedness, whereas every respondent with poor knowledge was classified as unprepared. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant association between menopause-related knowledge and women's readiness for the menopausal transition (p < 0.001). In conclusion, a higher level of knowledge about menopause was significantly associated with greater preparedness for the menopausal transition. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening health education and counseling programs to improve women's physical and psychological readiness, thereby supporting a healthier adaptation to menopause
