Remedial exam is a method used in Medical Education to improve below-standard summative scores, such as student’s Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) block scores. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of remedial exams in improving block pass rates for medical students at Universitas Andalas based on Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) scores. An observational analytic study was conducted using total sampling with a population of 249 first-year students registered in the 2022/2023 academic year. Student academic data was obtained from the Study Program of Medicine at Universitas Andalas. The data was collected using a computerized program and analyzed using paired-samples t-test statistics. The results were presented in frequency tables, graphic figures, and paired-samples t-test interpretation tables. This study found the highest number of remedial exam participants was in block 1.2 (212) out of the six blocks studied. Block 1.1 got the highest average remedial MCQ score (65.4), while the lowest average remedial MCQ score was in block 1.4 (44.5). The highest remedial MCQ score improvement percentage was in block 1.1 (93.1%). The paired t-test analysis result showed that the comparison of pre-remedial MCQ and post-remedial MCQ scores for block 1.1 was significant (p-value<0.001) but not significant for other blocks (p-value>0.05).
