PEMBERDAYAAN KELOMPOK TANI MELALUI EDUKASI DAN DEMONSTRASI PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH TERNAK MENJADI PUPUK ORGANIK DAN OPTIMALISASI SAWAH TADAH HUJAN DI KELURAHAN SUKAHURIP KOTA TASIKMALAYA

Abstract

Rainfed rice fields in Sukahurip Village, Tasikmalaya City, covering 87.49 ha and managed by 417 farmers, are not optimally utilized during the dry season because of limited water availability. Meanwhile, livestock manure, estimated at 5–7 tons per rearing season, has not been processed consistently. This community service program aimed to improve farmers' knowledge, build positive responses, improve skills, and introduce the use of local resources. The program was held on 26 September 2026 with 27 participants and combined observation, interviews, discussions, extension, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in a demonstration plot. Knowledge was evaluated with a pre-test and post-test (10 multiple-choice questions per topic) and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, while attitudes and skills were observed qualitatively. The mean score for the rainfed rice field topic increased from 51.85 to 81.48, and for the organic fertilizer topic from 52.96 to 77.04 (p < 0.001 for both topics). During the demonstration, about 100 kg of porasi compost mixture and about 15 L of liquid organic fertilizer mixture were prepared. Participants showed positive responses, expressed as interest in trying to apply the material, and appeared to be more familiar with the steps and more skilled in making organic fertilizer. The program strengthened the initial capacity of the farmer groups, whereas impacts on productivity and income require further monitoring.
